The Aztec religion features a creation myth centered on sacrifice - even gods were sacrificed to keep the sun moving. Important in Aztec religion are the sun, moon and the planet Venus - all of which hold different symbolic and religious meanings and are connected to deities and geographical places. Aztec cosmology divides the world into upper and nether worlds, each associated with a specific set of deities and astronomical objects. It has a large and ever increasing pantheon the Aztecs often adopt deities of other geographic regions or peoples into their own religious practice. Like other Mesoamerican religions, it has elements of human sacrifice in connection with a large number of religious festivals which are held according to patterns of the Aztec calendar. Aztec Paganism is the Mesoamerican religion of the Aztecs.
